Let's look at the story from a Marxist perspective. The Evil Baron and the Giant are the richest people in the story; the Evil Baron on account of his ownership of land and the Giant because of his ownership of the Golden Goose. Yet, the Giant doesn't seem particularly formidable. The Giant isn't even very big. Everyone comes tumbling down the beanstalk, and after the Evil Baron's transformation, everyone lives happily together on the Earth, including the Golden Goose. What does that mean? I'm going to have to think about it some more....
That's true, it is very strange. The Giant seems to have inherited his position: he has that careless, lackadaisical approach that the third-generation wealthy seem to get. But why?

Yes, the Marxist perspective can take you only so far.....
