Some Of My Pictures of "Oliver!" Dress Rehearsal - February 28, 2019

Jasper's Allergic Reaction

I played amateur vet tonight. Jasper’s face had swollen, particularly on the left side. He was uncomfortable and his eyes itched. An allergic reaction.

I figured Jasper probably ate a bee. Back in my childhood, the next-door neighbors had a dog named Smoky who would chase and catch balls, mud clods, sticks, and anything else that flew, including bees. Smoky’s mouth was swollen all spring long.

Do dogs respond to Benadryl? Didn’t know, but I cut open a Unisom gel cap, and gave Jasper a taste of the Benadryl inside.

Several hours later, for whatever reason, the swelling has diminished. Maybe Jasper’s learned a lesson?

[UPDATE: Uncomfortable night. Jasper was itching uncontrollably. I didn’t know whether it was the allergic reaction or if he had stumbled into fleas. No sleep. He was due for his heartworm/ flea pill, so I gave it to him, and 45 minutes later he threw up. He’s been quiet since then. Probably fell asleep about 4 a.m. Will need to nap a lot today. I hope Jasper feels better today.]

Scorpions In The Lollipops

These must not be real scorpions embedded in the Candy Lady's lollipops. She wouldn't really use real scorpions, would she? Looks real enough, of course, but surely....

(Half a lollipop hour later...) Well, protein. And her name ain't Shirley...

A Trim

Tree branches were encroaching on power lines, so....

Sunset Display

Nice sunset sky display - big clouds over the Sierra Nevada, as seen driving east towards Sacramento on the I-80 Yolo Causeway.

Taking Apart a Palm Tree

There’s somebody hiding in the treetop there.

"Isn't It Romantic"

Fun movie, very akin to the "Pitch Perfect" movies Rebel Wilson has also shined in.

"Bohemian Rhapsody"

Good movie. I thought there were lots of parallels to "A Star is Born": love between bandmates vs. love between a couple; the path to commercial success; troubles with fame, etc.

Stephon Clark Protestors Come Past My House

Whoa! The Stephon Clark protestors came right past my house! Jasper was interested in the activity.

Increasingly, the protesters are targeting the neighborhoods where Sacramento’s elites actually live (and since I live on the edge of Curtis Park, that means me too).

The situation is tragic. (Strictly my opinion) the shooting of Stephon Clark was arguably justified, but the shooting of Darell Richards last September, just three blocks from here, was not justified (the police knew who Richards was and had time to prepare a mental health intervention, but did not). No one is marching for Darell, though, so marching for Stephon will have to do.

AOC In The Spotlight

Just a brief soapbox moment regarding Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, aka AOC. Why, of all the freshmen Democratic representatives, is SHE the one the media focuses on? The reason, I think, is that she isn't supposed to exist.

For at least forty years, since the early Seventies, America's billionaires (like the Koch Brothers) have been spending enormous amounts of money setting up an entire ideological infrastructure - libertarian and conservative think tanks, media organizations like FOX News, all kinds of Super PACS, etc.

The billionaires' goal wasn't just the normal business of herding cats - making sure bought politicians stayed bought. The purpose was a form of social engineering: to eradicate even the possibility of socialistic or left-wing thought. As in George Orwell's "1984," discontented poor people wouldn't even be able to assemble the thoughts in their heads required to make demands on the rich.

The billionaires thought they had succeeded. It sure looked that way! But by defeating the third-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, socialist-leaning AOC completely demolished the entire, expensive forty-year-long project. (It doesn't matter that AOC's socialism would have been called middle-of-the-road Democratic boilerplate ideology in the 1940's. She ran unapologetically on a left-wing program, and won).

AOC was supposed to be impossible. Yet, there she is! The billionaires are aghast that they failed, utterly and completely. And THAT is why AOC gets the media attention, and will continue to get the media's attention!

Starting A Series Of Blog Upgrades

Now that I've unpacked pictures from my recent trip to Albuquerque, I'll be upgrading several different things here on the blog. The process should take about two months. Upgrades will start on:

1.) Better Call Saul posts, particularly Season 4;

2.) Breaking Bad posts;

3.) A new post on the yet-to-be-released "Greenbrier" movie;

4.) Start upgrades for new editions of my two Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul books, for a presumed 2020 release;

5.) Create a YouTube video regarding my recent talk in Albuquerque;

6.) Creating menu posts to more-easily access posts on the subjects:
.....a.) Albuquerque Signs;
.....b.) Albuquerque Buildings;
.....c.) Albuquerque Murals;
.....d.) Maybe DMTC and YPT posts too - there's certainly a need there;

7.) Upgrade posts about movies filmed in the vicinity of Albuquerque, NM, using various pictures I recently took, and continue adding new posts about movies yet unwatched.

Cold Air Spills Over The Manzano Mountains

On the afternoon of February 18, 2019, easterly winds started howling on Mesa del Sol - the mesa southeast of Albuquerque. Cold air on the Great Plains was spilling over into the Rio Grande Valley. This is just about the most striking I’ve ever seen the Manzano Mountains! Looks like a Kelvin wave breaking atop the clouds!
