Defiance and Cancer

At Kaiser Permanente's Medical Office in Roseville. E. doesn’t want to be here and is girding for battle, but my job is to make her stay long enough to get the additional tests for Tuesday’s big confab. Diplomacy is key and denial isn’t just a river in Egypt.

The trip was a waste. E. refused to cooperate with the doctors and nurses. Understandable to some extent - the biopsy is not fully healed, and it hurts - but surgery is soon and the surgeons need info. E.'s cantankerous, very suspicious of authority, retreats into fantasy, and refuses to grasp the gravity of the situation. Not entirely equipped for the challenge. There's still some time, so not all is lost. Nevertheless, you don't want surgeons flying blind. Like they say, when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
