"Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" - Woodland Opera House
Left: The bows were part of the MegaMix too. Here, Jacob (foreground, to the right; Alan Smuda) returns to the stage.
Left: The orchestra.
Nice show (apparently using the 1993 revival script), generally done pretty much by-the-book. This show featured great costumes (by Laurie Everly-Klassen).
Putting 'Close Every Door' just prior to the MegaMix was slightly jarring - a little out-of-character, I thought, with the upbeat nature of the MegaMix - but it worked OK anyway.
Having a kids' chorus in the show with the adults was a nice touch. The casual, modern dress the kids wore seemed to fit fine with the otherwise Biblical theme of the show. The dancing was serviceable, but kept simple, given the number of people on stage. I was surprised the 'Color' song (Joseph's Coat') was kept rather subdued when first presented (in the MegaMix repeat, it was bigger and splashier). I was annoyed at one of the younger brothers: his energy did not come up to par until halfway through the first act.
An excellent corps of men (local community theater's scarcest commodity), crowned by Eddie Voyce as Joseph (I've seen him once before as 'Al' in "A Chorus Line" in Vallejo). I also liked Eric Alley as the Baker and Alex Cesena as the Butler.
Lots of friends involved this show:
Andrea St. Clair
Erik Catalan
Celia Green
Wayne Raymond
Carver Simmons
James Hernandez
Andy Sullivan
Jeff Nauer
Jebrille Shelton
Alan Smuda
plus a few other acquaintances too....
(Many good wishes to Stephen Hatcher, for his recovery from an ankle injury.)
