In the latest edition of WTF is going on in my neighborhood, I heard the pounding clang of a portable drilling rig as they drilled a hole into the parking lot near my house. "Why would anybody want to do that?" I wondered.Apparently they are befuddled why water is welling up through cracks in the pavement, so they are taking soil samples. Yet more evidence that, despite a comparatively high elevation in the area for the Sacramento Valley floodplain, the water table is riding high, and causing issues.
