"Bothered and Bewildered" - Stage Right Productions - March 7, 2025

Opening night for Rachel's play, in which she plays Beth, one of two daughters who must institutionalize their mother, who is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

Stage with a Memory Wall - family members of the show's actors and production staff who have had relatives with Alzheimer's Disease.

A great job by everyone!

Dave Burmester's Celebration of Life - March 8, 2025

Veteran's Memorial Theater in Davis, CA:  home of Acme Theater, which Dave Burmester founded while also teaching English and drama (his day job) at Davis Senior High School, apparently in 1980.

I only met Dave Burmester once, but his serene demeanor made it clear that he was the leader of Yolo County theater.  All his children and grandchildren are involved in theater too.  For example, Dave's son Tom Burmester is current Executive Director of the Woodland Opera House.

Davis City Council members presented a resolution that passed unanimously in City Council that names this space as the Dave Burmester Stage.

Improv blanket.

People piled in.  Some friends are here.

Various speeches and presentations.

Chris Burmester presents a short play - "Wandering," featuring Adam Wright, Alicia Hunt, and Chris Burmester.

RIP, Kevin Drum

When it comes to blogging, Kevin Drum was one of my heroes. One can only hope to come up to his level.

An omen?

"I'm Still Here"

An interesting film about a family who suffered directly under Brazil's military dictatorship - at that time, under General Emílio Garrastazu Médici. The actual politics were quite complicated and as a result were lightly touched on in the film.

The eerie part of the film was when unknown armed men showed up at the family residence, took away the father, and the rest of the family had to act as if nothing was particularly wrong or unusual about the situation.  Surviving under conditions where you had to deny obvious facts.

A warning about our slide into dictatorship under Trump.

Mercury's Visible!

March is a magical month!

This was the western sky, shortly after sunset, as captured by iPhone. In the upper right is planet Venus. Below Venus, to the left, and just above the tree, is planet Mercury! So hard to see Mercury!

The Moon is magical too. We’re at maximum lunar standstill. Declination is more than +28 degrees now. Very far north. In a couple of weeks the Moon will reach maximum southern standstill of this cycle AND we’ll have a lunar eclipse too!

Evening of March 6th.

Evening of March 7th.

Just A Suggestion, And It's Off To 1984 Nostalgia Land

Sometimes it takes very little to push me down a vortex of nostalgia. I notice that University of Arizona is asking for stories for an oral history project. Bang! It's 1984!
