Latino Vote Rising
A good trend:
When the GOP is in Charge of Anything
Guilty as fuck:
Two former officials linked to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's office were found guilty on all charges Friday in connection with the closure of lanes in 2013 on the George Washington Bridge in an act of alleged political retribution, the fallout for which has come to be known as Bridgegate.
Bridget Anne Kelly, the former deputy chief of staff to Christie, and Bill Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, both faced seven counts of various charges including conspiracy, fraud, and civil rights deprivation.

More Plagiarization
This time, Wife #3 Melania Trump plagiarized Wife #2, Marla Maples. Why not make an original speech? It's just embarrassing.
Organizing Bookshelves
The last two days, I've been doing something I haven't done for a long time: completely reorganize my bookshelves. I'm finding books I forgot I had. I'm finding duplicates too: two copies each of Paul Horgan's 'Great River', Douglas Preston's 'Cities of Gold', and Ferenc Szasz's 'The Day The Sun Rose Twice'. Plus, I apparently can't pass by a biography of Nikola Tesla in the bookstore without buying it.

Time To Chop Off Heads At The FBI
FBI, thy name is bullshit:
Holy crap. The field agents got started on this because they read 'Clinton Cash', the latest in a 25-year stream of books insisting that the Clintons are our era's Borgia family. Then they got even more interested because some guy—literally just some guy—was recorded blathering about the foundation.
This is what Hillary Clinton has faced ever since 1992. It started in Arkansas, where this kind of character assassination is basically just political sport, and then got exported to Washington, DC, when Bill Clinton ran for the presidency. There's nothing in Schweizer's book except yet another Clinton Derangement Syndrome victim insisting that if two things happened at the same time, somehow the Clintons were responsible for it and he's got the proof right here!
And now it turns out the FBI is full of middle-aged white guys who apparently read the book, listen to lots of Rush Limbaugh, and just know that if they look a little harder they'll find the one Jenga brick that causes the whole Clinton edifice to finally collapse. Jesus Christ.

Rebel Peas in a Pod
I like to drop names, so I was reviewing once again my relationship to Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis is the uncle of the wife of the first cousin four times removed of myself. So, I'm related to some of the Davis descendants, through the Bradford clan, but not to Jefferson Davis directly. Otherwise, Jefferson Davis and I are close; rebel peas in a pod.
Unusual October Rainfall in October
The wettest month in Sacramento is typically January (normal January rainfall is 4.18 inches). This October, we exceeded that wettest month (4.41 inches - normal October rainfall is 1.00 inches). 441% of normal!
At Sacramento Executive Airport, 4.76 inches of rain fell in October, more than any other October since they started recording there in 1941, except the 7.51 inches that fell in October, 1962.
Not enough rain fell last night to win third place at the official monitoring site for Sacramento. (The measurement location has moved several times since they started recording in 1849; these days, it's near Sac State).
2016 is officially the fourth wettest October on record. The Top 5 years are: 1962 (6.85"), 1889 (6.02"), 1899 (4.46"), 2016 (4.41"), 1876 (3.45").
A storm should pass through next weekend, but apart from that, early November looks like it will be mostly dry.

Trick or Treat 2016
It's beginning to rain, so I might not get many Trick or Treaters. I've had one group of three, and they were about 20 years old, but beggars can't be choosers about beggars.

RIP, Jack T. Chick
At the 2015 SWPACA meeting in Albuquerque, I met a fellow who was writing his Religious Studies Ph.D. dissertation on Jack T. Chick. Some people have all the luck!:
Chick’s tracts had a disturbing power to make you see the world through his eyes, a squirrelly and sweaty vantage point where everything is a demonic conspiracy to rob you of your soul. Chick started off as a garden variety magazine cartoonist in the Virgil Partch mold, but stretched that genial idiom to encompass nightmarish Boschian imagery.
Donald Is So Easy To Manipulate
Interesting story. Paul Manafort tricked Donald Trump into choosing Mike Pence over Chris Christie by lying and telling Trump the plane was broken:
It worked. The dumb ploy actually worked. Donald Trump picked his vice president because his own campaign manager sabotaged his flight plans to give Pence a night to make his case.
This election is amazing.
