Memorial For Jan Becker - Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Bremerton, WA - October 22, 2021

Jan Becker (1937 - 2021). From Jan's memoir:
Home Economics, a profession mostly unknown now, was an excellent choice as a whole-life vocation for me. I enjoyed the science and research aspects of it, and the wide-spread opportunities for employment carried me through to Social Security time! It provided an almost seamless transition between professional and family life. I could move from attending Parent Ed classes at the community college to teaching those classes, as well as Head Start and “Human Growth and Development.” The food science training served not only our family, but various community purposes as well! My high school experience with Mrs. Wilkins putting junior and senior students in complete charge of high school banquets was very beneficial to our church and Sons of Norway thirty to fifty years later!
...I was asked by a group of mothers at our church to take on the Parish education coordination at Our Saviour’s, beginning in the Summer/Fall of 1977. This became a very satisfying role to me, and by the ‘80’s we had a staff that seemed to be working toward great goals for our church. We established a church pre-school, The Sycamore Tree, which is still a well-respected early-childhood facility in our community.
