The Thrilling California Heat Wave

This heat wave is something else! Maybe the worst in California's history to date. 

I noticed California's climate going haywire starting in 2013. I figured Climate Change would take hold in my old age, when I wouldn't care anymore, but I was wrong. 

 Did you see the big pyrocumulus cloud over the brand new Mosquito fire in the Sierra Nevada this afternoon? 

I just wish the climate would right itself again.

Riding with James Gelet and Andrea Nowak - August 30, 2022

Taking photographs of filming locations for "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul," and other Albuquerque-based movies is usually a pretty solitary activity, but sometimes chance intervenes. Unbeknownst to me, Andrea Nowak from Essen, Germany made plans to vacation in Albuquerque, and had arranged to meet with James Gelet and have him show her around the filming locations. James is a pro with filming locations! Since I was in town too, all three of us got together on Tuesday, August 30th, and staged scenes, with Andrea playing Kim Wexler. We had a blast! 

I've long thought that there is a huge unsatisfied yearning by Europeans wanting to see the Albuquerque of "Breaking Bad." If only they could get the well-grounded introduction that Andrea got!

A Heat Record Downtown, But Not Quite at Sacramento Executive Airport

So, it appears Downtown Sacramento reached a new heat record, at 116 degrees F, but the 1961 record of 115 degrees F at Sacramento Executive Airport still holds. 

At 7 p.m., I finally turned on the air conditioning in my house (it was feeling toasty at 97 degrees). I just hope I don't crash the entire electrical grid by doing so.

Downtown Sacramento reached an all-time high temperature of 116 degrees Tuesday afternoon, breaking a record that was set nearly 100 years ago. 

The now surpassed record of 114 degrees was set on July 17, 1925, the National Weather Service in Sacramento announced in social media posts. Sacramento had already broken heat records over the Labor Day weekend as a lengthy heat wave continued to produce surging temperatures in the region. 

But after meeting the record around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, the mercury kept rising — the downtown gauge near Sacramento State rose to 115 just before 4 p.m., according to the weather service. At 5:18 p.m., the weather service announced that downtown Sacramento had just reached 116 degrees.

Maybe We'll Set an All-Time High Temperature in Sacramento Today

At 10 a.m. yesterday, it was 89 degrees F in Sacramento. Today at 10 a.m., it was 96 degrees F. Yesterday, Sacramento reached 114 degrees F, just one degree shy of matching Sacramento's all-time record of 115 degrees F. So, today we might just set an all-time record. It'll be close, no matter what happens!
