Georgia O'Keeffe and Henry Moore, Plus Others, at the Albuquerque Museum

The Albuquerque Museum has an exhibit on Georgia O'Keeffe and Henry Moore, two exact modernist contemporaries, an American painter and a British sculptor. One excellent exhibit!:

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Spring" (1948)

Henry Moore, "Reclining Figure" (1959-64)

Georgia O'Keefe, "Pedernal" (1941)

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Grey Hills" (1941)

Rachel poses in front of this painting, just as Georgia O'Keeffe posed in front of the hills in the accompanying photo for this painting (seen to the right).

Georgia O'Keeffe, "From the River - Pale" (1959)

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Red Hill and Bones" (1941)

Georgia O'Keeffe in her studio at Ghost Ranch.

One of Georgia O'Keeffe's famous doorway paintings.

Henry Moore, "Working Model for Reclining Figure: Hand" (1978)

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Untitled - Sacsayhuaman" (1957)

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Black Rock on Red" (1971)

Georgia O'Keeffe, "Pedernal - From the Ranch I" (1956).  I really like this painting!

Raymond Jonson, one of the "Carlsbad Trilogy" (1982)

Teri Greeves "Rez Pride/ Rez Girls:  Beaded Shoes" (2009)

Wilson Hurley, "Late Afternoon at La Cueva" (1983).  Really nice closeup view of the Sandia Mountains.

Bruce McMaster, "Anti-war Protesters March West on Central Avenue in Downtown Albuquerque" (1970).  I remember these demonstrations!

Oy!  This is Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Spiro Agnew raising the arm of Republican New Mexican Governor David Cargo in a gesture of victory in the fall of 1968.  For a Republican, Cargo was pretty interesting.  He wasn't governor very long; just two years (1967-1969).  He was the Governor in charge of the official response to Reies Lopez Tijerina's Rio Arriba Courthouse Raid in 1967.  Cargo was enthusiastic about bringing Hollywood folks to New Mexico. I remember Cargo making a guest appearance on the sitcom "The Governor and J.J." The audience erupted in applause, even though I bet hardly anyone in the audience had any idea who he was.  It was surreal and disorienting.

Here are the remaining statues of Spanish settlers after the statue of Juan de Onate was removed from grounds of the Albuquerque Museum, following the demonstrations, the violence, and the shooting (plus the new shooting in Espanola). Poor settlers.  No more leader.
