Eh, I dunno. Wehrner von Braun was launching V2's there in 1946 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJ9HrZq7Ro). Of course these new rockets have better cameras but there was more forest to see from space back then. I always liked the massive balloons that were launched at White Sands and which drifted over Socorro when we were there...
Funny, I don't remember the balloons. It's possible I didn't see them. I saw a Minuteman launch here in California in 2002, and even though it was 400 miles away, it made for an awesome sight!
