Dan in the UK picked up some daffodils in a supermarket and noticed the warning not to eat them. Reminds me. There is a mucilaginous but edible plant called pigweed that grows in the cracks of Albuquerque sidewalks, and if I find someone tedious and dull I sometimes absentmindedly reach down, grab a bit, and start chewing.
Pics please, as a forager new to the Southwest I need all the help I can get
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! Unfortunately I have no pictures. Pigweed is a generic name that encompasses a variety of plants. For the Albuquerque sidewalk variety, experiment is the key. Go to any Albuquerque sidewalk - any sidewalk - and look for the scrubby, ground-hugging stuff that grows in the cracks. Then, test it out by tasting it. Not pleasant, but not harmful. Impress your friends. Mortify your enemies.
