After Midnight At The UCD Small Animal Clinic

On Saturday June 2, after the YPT 25th Anniversary Cabaret, I got a call from Sally, who was at the UCD Small Animal Clinic, because her cat, Raider, wasn't feeling well. So, after midnight, I ended up waiting there too.

People came and went. One man came in to pay an $1,100.00 bill for his horse. A woman brought her dog because it had inhaled one of those grass tufts that bury themselves and penetrate tissue. After much nasal searching, there was no resolution. Another couple faced news that their dog required $3,800.00 worth of cancer surgery. Clearly, in this place, the worst kind of small animal issues were faced every day.

After an enema, Raider felt much better, and for a bill that barely topped $30.00. The most bizarre kind of luck in this clinic!

  1. Some of the things that happen after midnight to these poor animals can be quite sad. I remember when I used to help out at the ucd; we would get some of the saddest things at night. I'm just glad that there's someone there for them when things like that happen.
