Earlier this week, the weather forecasts seemed to be showing a heat wave coming, but more like a *small* heat wave, not one of the grandiose, legendary sorts.
Well, seems big enough to me right now!
Here's a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service:
...HOT WEATHER CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND FOR INTERIOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA..This afternoon, I was listlessly sweeping the pavement near the bird seed spot in the alley - staring at the listless pigeons as they stared back - when I discovered a strange, listless cat in the bushes, also watching the listless pigeons. I picked the cat up and moved it, because I don't want cats lingering around the bird seed spot, but the cat seemed too stupefied by the heat to pose an immediate hazard. I wonder if he even remembers where he was?
STRONG HIGH PRESSURE IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD ALONG THE WEST COAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND RESULTING IN HOT CONDITIONS OVER THE INTERIOR OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY ARE EXPECTED ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK AGAIN ON SUNDAY WITH MANY AREAS TOPPING OUT AROUND 105. THESE VALUES ARE BELOW DAILY RECORD LEVELS...BUT UPWARDS OF 10 DEGREES OR MORE ABOVE NORMAL. HIGHS IN THE FOOTHILLS WILL BE IN THE 90S TO AROUND 100 WITH 80S TO 90S IN THE MOUNTAINS. OVERNIGHT LOW TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE MID 60S TO MID 70S FOR THE VALLEY...THE 70S TO NEAR 80 AT THE FOOTHILLS...WITH UPPER 40S TO UPPER 60S IN THEMOUNTAINS.
PEOPLE OUTDOORS THIS WEEKEND SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE HOT WEATHER. AVOID STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. THOSE SEEKING RELIEF FROM THE HEAT ALONG COLDER AREA STREAMS AND RIVERS SHOULD REMAIN AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF HYPOTHERMIA.
A SLIGHT COOLING TREND IS POSSIBLE FOR NEXT WEEK...BUT TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE NORMAL.
